WHAT IS HOMEOPATHY?
Homeopathy is an individualized system of medicine that is safe, natural and effective in supporting the body in it's healing efforts. It makes use of natural substances derived from plants, animals or minerals to act as a catalyst to healing.

It was established in the 18th Century and has become a system of healing used around the world with many countries including it as part of their National Health Care programs. In Ontario, Canada, the provincial government has recognized it as a Regulated Health Service and in 2007 developed The Homeopathy Act.

As we all know, we're more than just our physical parts, we're also our thoughts, how we think about things, our feelings, and our life experiences that have helped shape us. And when any, or all, of these parts are out of balance, we can start to feel unwell and to develop symptoms. It's these "symptoms" that we look at as our body's response to our environment in it's efforts to maintain homeostasis and rather than try to suppress symptoms, we learn to understand them and support the body in doing what it is born knowing how to do. For example, when it's hot we sweat, when it's cold, we shiver, but if we're shivering, without it being cold out, that "symptom" is telling us something about your body and where it might be out of sync. We understand that the body has it's own wisdom....we're not here to shut down it's language, but rather interpret it, look for patterns, and then subsequently support it with remedies that match those patterns.

A helpful way to think about homeopathy is to imagine a swing that is barely moving. Rather than forcing it into motion, a gentle push given at the right moment can help it regain its momentum and natural rhythm. Homeopathic remedies are intended to work in a similar way—providing a subtle, yet powerful, stimulus that acts as a catalyst and supports the body's own ability to heal, regulate and move back to a more balanced state of being.

Homeopathic remedies are selected according to the principle of "like cures like." Rather than focusing solely on a diagnosis or disease label, a homeopath considers the totality of your symptoms and looks for patterns in how your body expresses illness and responds to life's challenges. Whether you are seeking care for a common cold, a chronic condition that has persisted for years, or disregulation as a result of a difficult life transition, your experience is unique and deserves an individualized approach that recognizes the mind-body relationship.

A homeopath seeks to understand not only what symptoms you have, but how you experience them. For example, if pain is present, is it burning, throbbing, or stinging? Is it constant or intermittent? What makes it better or worse? How does it affect your energy, mood, sleep, or overall sense of well-being? These details provide important clues about your individual pattern of health and imbalance. If you're struggling with the effects of anxiety, grief, overwhelm, or disregulation, your homeopath will seek to understand how the experience has been lived, embodied, integrated or resisted within the individual. The event does not determine the remedy....your response does.
